Re-imagining Brooklyn, 2017

Re-imaging Brooklyn

Historic maps of Brooklyn from 1840 and 1860 are the focus for this series of work. Printed in black and white onto archival paper— The maps are a starting point. Boundaries are broken. Streets and neighborhoods are redefined, chaos is embraced in an effort to achieve a visual reconfiguring of the urban landscape. Each decision influences the next.  It is my way to cope and respond to the conditions around me both external and internal. The interplay of line, shape, and pattern combined with my choice of unnatural colors  allows the imagery to break away from the preconceived landscape allowing a more surreal interpretation.
